The Original Penny Loafer

The Aurland Shoe, or Penny Loafer, is a timeless classic created by a local shoemaker named Nils Tveranger. He was inspired both by the traditional Norwegian shoe called the Tese shoe and lightweight moccasins from the Iroquois tribe in America. The Aurland shoe became very popular in the States where it got it's american name: The Penny loafer. The shoe has left an enduring legacy, shaping the world of footwear and remaining a symbol of both Norwegian craftsmanship and American fashion.

What is an Économusée?

An Économusée is not a museum in the usual sense, but a living workshop, offering a real tourist attraction alongside the manufacture and sale of traditional products. We will show you our craft traditions and their historical context, as well as offer you the chance to purchase our products.
