The Royal Postal Road
The Nærøyfjord is a hidden gem in the Flåm region. One of the best ways of getting close to the fjord is to hike along the old Royal Postal Road between Bleiklindi and Styvi. The path follows the fjord from Bleiklindi, a place named after the large and pale linden tree there, which formed part of the old postal route between Bergen and Oslo. In winter when the ice on the fjord was unsafe, the postmen from Voss and Gudvangen would cross the fjord from the small village of Bakka over to Bleiklindi and continue along this path to Styvi farm. Styvi was a post farm, meaning the mail was delivered further to Lærdal by boat.
The path is approx. 5.5 kilometers long and is an easy and idyllic walk, accompanied by a skilled guide. You will pass steep mountainsides rising straight up from the fjord, beautiful rock faces, wild valleys and scenic waterfalls. You may even spot some seals, otters or porpoises along the way.
Fjord Cruise Nærøyfjord
On the return journey from Styvi to Flåm you’ll enjoy a fjord cruise on a state-of-the-art and fully electric vessel. The boat sails silently on battery power through unspoilt fjord landscapes. Enjoy refreshments from the onboard kiosk and admire the views from different angles. Relax in the lounges inside or explore the walkways, inspired by the winding trails of steep mountains. A fjord cruise on the Nærøyfjord and Aurlandsfjord is the perfect end to a scenic day trip.
