Safe in Myrkdalen
You must ensure the safety of yourself and others while skiing, both inside and around the ski resort. It's simple: Follow these tips!
The Skiing Rules
We ask that you read and follow these skiing rules to ensure the ski resort remains a safe place for everyone.
The Ski Resort Outside Opening Hours
After the ski center's regular opening hours, the area is treated as a construction zone, and machinery may be in operation. Snow groomers will be on the trails, and they can appear unexpectedly if you are skiing down at high speed. Please exercise caution. A snow groomer equipped with a winch uses a steel cable that connects the machine to a winch anchor. This cable is relatively thin, hard to see, and often lies just above the snow. To ensure safety, always establish eye contact with the driver before approaching a snow groomer. It is prohibited to move within 25 meters of snow groomers that are in operation.
Snow Production
There are several dangers associated with snow production, including icy snow drifts and changes in conditions due to wet snow, even when the weather is cold. High-pressure hoses and electrical cables are also utilized. Therefore, it is important to maintain a safe distance from all installations connected to the snow-making equipment.
On Your Way Pp the Slope?
Always walk on the outer edge of the slopes. When approaching a hilltop, stay on the outside of the track or marks to avoid colliding with skiers coming downhill. It is prohibited to sledge in freshly groomed tracks in the evening, as the trail left by sledging can be very destructive the next day when it freezes, making the surface firm and sleek.
Skiing Off-Piste is at Your Own Risk
The ski resort is responsible for marked and groomed trails. If you leave the trails, all skiing is at your own risk. It is important to be aware of the various dangers present in the mountains. Examples are rocks, avalanche, cornices, etc. Check the posted avalanche risk level at the resort, along with the explanation provided.
On www.varsom.no, you can find more information about the avalanche warning in our region. It is advisable to ski with others when going off-piste. This way, you can assist each other if any problems arise.
