About the Myrkdal Express
The chairlift is located right next to Myrkdalen Hotel. Within five minutes, it takes you up to 860 meters above sea level. From there, excellent hiking opportunities are available, or one can stroll down to the mountain lodge in Vetlebotn for a nice lunch.
If you wish to climb a mountain peak, we recommend Finnbunuten, which is 1358 meters above sea level. From there, you'll have a fantastic view of famous glaciers such as Hardangerjøkulen, Jostedalsbreen, and Folgefonna.
A shorter alternative is to hike to the idyllic Mørkvesstølen. Along the trail, there are beautiful pools in the river that are tempting to swim in on warm summer days.

Practical information
Consider this before you take the elevator
- No matter what the weather is like when you start your hike, remember that conditions in the mountains can change quickly, so bring appropriate clothing
- Children under ten years and 140 cm must take the chairlift together with an adult
- The chairlift may close at short notice due to poor weather conditions
- If you are pregnant, have reduced mobility, have heart problems, or fear heights, you should consider whether the elevator is right for you. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
- You cannot take a bicycle with you in the elevator
- Persons under the influence of alcohol are not allowed to use the elevator
